Seeds to Share
Fall offers a different kind of stunning beauty! The various shades of browns, golds, reds and greens sets the mood for the the shorter days ahead. In the photo is little bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium) a short prairie grass that provides beautiful interest and structure through fall and winter! There are many other native species that give the landscape diversity and form through the cold months ahead. I start harvesting seeds from the native plants in my yard in late summer and fall. This is also the time I start thinking about any changes or edits I want to make for the next growing season. If you are collecting seeds from your native plants, make sure you let the seeds ripen on the stem before you remove the seeds. Also remember to leave at least 50% of the seed heads intact, so our feathered neighbors have food through the winter season.
Are you looking for native seeds to diversify your garden? I have seed packets to share. Below is a list of available free native seeds. Just send me an email at prairieplantrevival@gmail.com and we can arrange seed delivery.
